蒙特于1875年4月4日生于巴黎,6岁学小提琴,9岁进入巴黎音乐学院随拉维尼亚克学习,12岁即首次登台指挥音乐会演出.1911年,蒙特组织了自己的乐团-柏辽兹音乐会乐团,自任音乐总监兼指挥,被贾吉列夫看上,聘请他出任俄罗斯芭蕾舞团的指挥.在任职7年间,他指挥过许多著名作品的首演,包托斯特拉文斯基的彼得鲁什卡(1911年)春之祭(1913年)夜莺(1914年)拉威尔的达夫尼斯与克洛埃德彪西的游戏(1913年)等.
